SpotlightEdit

Hey Sxerks, is it alright if I could put up the new spotlights?--White Flash (Contact) 00:03, January 1, 2013 (UTC)

Voice Actors Edit

Excuse me, but would you like me to make infoboxes for the voice actors? I know some sites where I'm able to get photos of them, and if I find additional info, I'd be happy to expand their articles. I just noticed they're rather lack-luster in many ways compared to other articles. Thank you. FallenShadow   •   Talk   •   Email

I'll see what I can do.--Sxerks (talk) 16:09, January 15, 2013 (UTC)
Just passing by, but I saw a couple of infoboxes that would be a nice fitting for the voice actor pages (English and Japanese). Here's what I have so far, hey Sxerks, whenever you have some free time can you check out {{Template:Infobox/Animanga/Personal}}? It's a little complex for me, it has SMW coding.--White Flash (Contact) 18:48, January 21, 2013 (UTC)
Seems kinda complicated, where did you get it from. It shouldn't have SMW in it, don't know why it does.--Sxerks (talk) 22:46, January 21, 2013 (UTC)
I got it from Narutopedia.--White Flash (Contact) 22:52, January 21, 2013 (UTC)

Animangafooter Edit

I was wondering if you would take a look at this. Also, I hope you don't mind me archiving 2012 talk page and starting 2013.  Teppei  talk  06:54,1/15/2013  06:54, January 15, 2013 (UTC)

replied on that talk page.--Sxerks (talk) 16:09, January 15, 2013 (UTC)

Manhwa? Edit

The Animangafooter contains 'Transfer Student Storm Bringer' which really isn't a manga. Can I or should I remove it?  Teppei  talk  04:52,1/16/2013  04:52, January 16, 2013 (UTC)

we have manhwa here, so it's fine, just not cartoons and comics.--Sxerks (talk) 06:28, January 16, 2013 (UTC)

Old anime wiki Edit

Sxerks, when wikia killed the old anime wiki they killed off a bunch of reference, licensing info, source data for the mascot being used, etc... without it being copied anywhere else.

I talked with a staff member awhile ago and he decided that restoring that needs a community discussion (https://docs.google.com/document/d/13kqQFc18Tsa96NMEtmCoSk1lFrOLH3aqDRoQ9Uy5m74/pub).

Though it looks like Wikia went and broke the forums here too. I'm not sure where to start a community discussion. ~ Daniel Friesen (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (Local TalkAnimanga Talk) 07:14, March 12, 2013 (UTC)

Ya, that was a while ago. Don't they usually make a database dump or archive of a wiki before they close it?
I didn't notice the Forums were messed up, since I never use them, but looks like "?action=purge" fixes them.--Sxerks (talk) 15:11, March 12, 2013 (UTC)
Else try adding ?mcache=writeonly.
Anyways not the reason why I am here.
Could anyone please remove this from Anime-Common.css:
.title { display: block; }

Voice ActorsEdit

Would it be alright if I copied some iBox related templates here and made a Voice Actor template that put information into Semantic Properties? I'd think it be nicer than linking to wikipedia for voice actors on many anime wikis. And if wanted, spiff up some of the other templates. — SimAnt 21:17, March 12, 2013 (UTC)

It looks like some of the ibox templates are here, there was some work on VA templates if you look a couple header up on my talk page. Maybe contact those people and see what is in common. And yes, it would be better if things link here instaed of wikipedia. As for Semantic properties, it would be ok as long as they didn't interfere with any of the current properties.--Sxerks (talk) 21:42, March 12, 2013 (UTC)
Should the Voice actor pages contain information about non-voice acting roles? — SimAnt 22:08, March 12, 2013 (UTC)
It's an article about the person, so any info on them appropriate.--Sxerks (talk) 22:58, March 12, 2013 (UTC)
Hi, apparently somewhere along the line this bug fix was omitted in the transfer between the old anime wiki. Could you place
.box.infobox dl dl, .box.infobox ul ul {
    margin-left: 15px !important;
}

in Mediawiki:Anime-Common.css. Thanks — SimAnt 21:34, March 13, 2013 (UTC)

I changed the template to be one for a person instead of only a voice actor. Could you take a look at Special:FormEdit/Person/User:Simant/Sandbox and tell me your thoughts about it. What is missing, etc. The css for the form is hereSimAnt 19:57, March 14, 2013 (UTC)
VA's like Rie Kugimiya have a lot of roles, and those make up most the the article, that info is too much for an infobox. Other than that, it looks good.--Sxerks (talk) 20:08, March 14, 2013 (UTC)
I can set the box to be collapsed so the voice actors, etc. only show if the user clicks it. Would that work? Edit: Also we can change the css so that the linespacing is less between items. — SimAnt 20:25, March 14, 2013 (UTC)
The infoboxes are just going to be too long, and the info really shouldn't be hidden. I think a default loaded template like Template:SeriesDefault would work in the article page with different sections like "intro text" then headers for each job type with a default comment of "remove this section if not applicable" under each header.--Sxerks (talk) 20:57, March 14, 2013 (UTC)
So should I either make the template that is like SeriesDefault part of the form, along with the text before it as part of the template, or not part of the form like http://naruto.wikia.com/wiki/Naruto:_Clash_of_Ninja#Playable_Characters? — SimAnt 17:49, March 15, 2013 (UTC)
Can it even be part of a form and display in a separate section of the page?--Sxerks (talk) 18:49, March 15, 2013 (UTC)
The problem is that the form puts the template before the main text of the page. So either the text content before the voice actors has to be in the form. Although I had a thought, if Variables extension was installed, I could try storing the values in that and using a simple template later in the page to reference the variable. Although the array extension may be better for this purpose, i'll play around a bit on a wiki that has them installed. — SimAnt 18:58, March 15, 2013 (UTC)
Probably just load it like the SeriesDefault is then, and not have it part of the form.--Sxerks (talk) 19:04, March 15, 2013 (UTC)
okay, did like you suggested, could you ask wikia to enable the Extension:Variables? — SimAnt 02:12, March 17, 2013 (UTC)
Ok, I got an email back that it has been enabled.--Sxerks (talk) 23:58, March 17, 2013 (UTC)
Check out User:Simant/Sandbox, Special:FormEdit/Person/User:Simant/Sandbox, if you want I can enabled it so edit with form shows up on category:Person. Also about the changes to Mediawiki:Anime-Common.css I asked for earlier, I made a mistake, while that works for stuff in infoboxes it doesn't work on the css class causing the problem itself (which is why my sandbox entries aren't indented). So remove the previous css and put in under where "/* Lists -Dantman */" is.
.list-noicon ul ul { margin-left: 15px !important;}
, thanks. — SimAnt 04:30, March 18, 2013 (UTC)

We have a Category:People already in use (instead of person). Each of the Occupation check boxes should also add a corresponding category to the article.--Sxerks (talk) 05:32, March 18, 2013 (UTC)

I'd prefer to redirect a category to a semantic concept instead of a category. — SimAnt 04:45, March 19, 2013 (UTC)
Is there a manual of style type thing, I should use as the default text upon creation of a company page? Also I was wondering if you wanted me to make a page like http://gundam.wikia.com/wiki/Special:RunQuery/Weapon_query for the series to run since the drilldown is broken. — SimAnt 23:18, March 22, 2013 (UTC)
There wasn't really one for the people pages either, I think they are generally Wikipedia copies for the style. Maybe like Gianax with the infobox (minus the products), and then "basic info" at the top, with the following headers below: History,Series(with what roll they did, production/animation...),References. Wikipedia isn't consistent at them either.
And since Drilldown isn't working we can try the RunQuery, I'm not sure what the individual drop-downs should be though.--Sxerks (talk) 00:42, March 23, 2013 (UTC)
Okay check out http://animanga.wikia.com/wiki/Special:RunQuery/Series_query , although since it uses properties that users have typed out and there isn't a list of allowed values there are some "duplicates" (such as different letter cases, extra words). Also, I am unsure about what the Tag field is for, or how it differs from genre. — SimAnt 01:43, March 23, 2013 (UTC)
looks like a good start. What any/all means really isn't clear to me. Yes, we need to clean up the dups. The Tags field is for non-genre descriptions of items or things that happen, it may have been misused.--Sxerks (talk) 02:26, March 23, 2013 (UTC)
Should the genres be like http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/search/genre and the tags be like themes? I can use those as allowed values. and we can go through http://animanga.wikia.com/wiki/Property:Has_improper_value_for to find problems. — SimAnt 16:56, March 23, 2013 (UTC)
Sure.--Sxerks (talk) 19:08, March 23, 2013 (UTC)
Could you please add the content from User:Simant/wikia.css to Mediawiki:Common.css. Thanks. — SimAnt 03:41, March 26, 2013 (UTC)

Template:Series Edit

http://animanga.wikia.com/wiki/Template:Series?curid=2026&diff=18752&oldid=18745 The template Template:SemanticInputParser/Array has an arraymap in it. Also the Drilldown template that was there before references semantic drilldown which is not working at the moment. The template I put in uses searchbyproperty. Is there a problem of it not working as expected on series pages? — SimAnt 04:45, March 22, 2013 (UTC)

It doesn't work, it changed the "media" check boxes to an open field.--Sxerks (talk) 14:28, March 22, 2013 (UTC)
That was a separate issue with the form not defining where it got its values from. I have since fixed it. — SimAnt 17:47, March 22, 2013 (UTC)
If it functions properly now you can re-add it.--Sxerks (talk) 19:04, March 22, 2013 (UTC)

Kakumeiki ValvraveEdit

Hello! I went to add a page for Kakumeiki Valvrave since a wiki was just created for it and noticed that you deleted the page. I wasn't sure why but wanted to give you the wiki link just in case you want to recreate the page, thanks!

Grace@Wikia 18:36, March 22, 2013 (UTC)

Special:ChatEdit

I was thinking that instead of the animanga irc channel, that we could ask wikia staff if it was possible to redirect certain animanga wiki's to this site for chat, that could possible increase traffic here. — SimAnt 23:06, March 25, 2013 (UTC)

For the tables you could, but the data would have to be stored in semantic properties on the pages to query it. It would be something like List of Episodes. — SimAnt 04:01, March 28, 2013 (UTC)
Animanga_Wiki:Sandbox. Although other language information is not stored on series pages so i can't query that. And the wiki is still updating data for the new properties i created. — SimAnt 20:15, March 28, 2013 (UTC)
Wikia has the limit for a query set at 500, but i can create multiple queries with an offset since this is only on a single page rather than on hundreds of pages. — SimAnt 20:55, March 28, 2013 (UTC)

Wiki InfoEdit

Hey I was thinking instead of manually inputting data such as page count, we could try using the api http://naruto.wikia.com/api.php?action=query&meta=siteinfo&siprop=statistics&format=json along with http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:External_Data (if wikia can enable a working version of it). With this the pages would get the info from the sites themselves as long as the wiki url is provided. — SimAnt 18:13, March 29, 2013 (UTC)

From how I understand it, this function would be on each series page through the templaet, it would only update when a person edits the page, or once a week when wikia's cron job is run, so it wouldn't add all that much load. It may be possible to get additional information from the api, but i have to research it more. — SimAnt 23:19, March 29, 2013 (UTC)
So may I special:Contact to attempt to enable it? — SimAnt 19:10, March 30, 2013 (UTC)
Basically, the answer from wikia is no. They said it would be too database heavy. — SimAnt 01:53, April 4, 2013 (UTC)

QuestionEdit

Hello, I wanted to ask you if I can change the link from http://animanga.wikia.com/wiki/Kaich%C5%8D_wa_Maid-sama!. There are around 3 wikis about this anime, but our one, http://kaichouwamaidsama.wikia.com, is the most improved one. Efflorescence (talk) 11:30, March 30, 2013 (UTC)

Request from Wikia Edit

Hi Sxerks,

We’re conducting a survey of Wikia’s most passionate Anime users. Your depth of knowledge on these topics inspires us to learn more about Anime and why it appeals to so many of our users. We’d appreciate if you took a few minutes to complete this short survey.

If you have any other Wikia friends that you think would be interested in taking this survey, please let me know!

Thanks, Abarlas (talk) 17:41, April 4, 2013 (UTC)

Series TemplateEdit

I was wondering about changing the current setup of series pages. At the moment it contains related series in one page. I was thinking that instead they should be separated. I have been working on Form:Series2, and was wondering if I should finish it. — SimAnt 17:09, April 12, 2013 (UTC)

Also, if you get "Extension:Regex Fun" enabled I can implement a version of Template:SemanticInputParser which can take in piped links for things such as voice acting roles, where the wiki page name is not what is the desired page name. — SimAnt 18:04, April 12, 2013 (UTC)
I was thinking series like tenchi muyo which had alternate retellings should have different genre/tags/plot, so it wouldn't do a proper search. there are some pages already that have separate series that direct to the same wiki To Heart/To Heart 2, Shaman King/Shaman King: Flowers, and probably a few more. — SimAnt 02:50, April 15, 2013 (UTC)
Bump. — SimAnt 02:11, April 24, 2013 (UTC)
Examples of uses with Extension:Regex fun and the template I made, can be seen here in the documentation. For here I was going to use it so that user inputted WikiText piped links can be properly read by the template. — SimAnt 04:13, May 20, 2013 (UTC)

What is the standard format for Profile Pages? Edit

I was looking at Sket Dance's page and others and basing its format for other pages. I come across Shingeki no Kyojin, and it has a list of chapters and a media section or Hungry Joker that actually links their chapter lists to their wiki pages. I don't think that's fair for the other Wikia communities here.

I'm new here. I don't know the format for the anime series profile pages. Taka shichea 20:20, April 18, 2013 (UTC)

On second thought, the sense of competition in getting editors is probably the reason for the variation in profile pages. I take the back the "fairness" part. It's up to the individual to promote the Wikia in any way. Taka shichea 20:27, April 18, 2013 (UTC)

Okay, I'll remove them. Taka shichea 18:44, April 20, 2013 (UTC)

TopNav linkbackEdit

I noticed that in addition to a checkbox for if the footer is on the homepage there is also a box for topnav. Could we include in the template guidelines on how to incorporate these features?

I added a link to animanga at w:c:GuP but I am not sure if it is in the right spot, it is on the upper right, is that how I should do it on all wikis I admin for?

Also wondering if the series template could do something like add 2 subcategories to Category:Series with Wikis like Category:Wikis with footers when the box is checked or Category:Wikis without footers when it isn't, so that we could easily check on which are properly linking back to Animanga as is expected when we advertise that wikia project on a page here.

Something similar could also work for TopNav although I can't think of what to call those subcategories. +Yc 23:46, May 1, 2013 (UTC)

Form RevertedEdit

I don't understand what you mean by "not yet", why was this reverted? It didn't add any additional fields that were not there already. — SimAnt 00:36, May 5, 2013 (UTC)

Did something happen? You haven't been replying lately to messages. — SimAnt 22:31, May 12, 2013 (UTC)
Well I have been using the tabber for the infoboxes on gundam wiki for over a year and haven't had any complaints. The reason the top field didn't have a label was because it was not for any specific content, rather it takes content that belongs above the infobox since the form moves other templates below. The themes field has an autocomplete, and I really didn't see a need to put example text like the old form had. Also the lower fields of Form:Series2 I removed when I attempted to use it to change the Series form before. The default text was just linking to the wrong template. — SimAnt 03:50, May 20, 2013 (UTC)

Bug with wikia logosEdit

Trying to locate a wiki you linkedEdit

In this edit you added a link to w:c:papanoiukoto (the second). While the first link is a valid wiki, I am not getting anything when I go there, was it possible entered wrong? Was trying to add its creation date and page count but doesn't appear to be there. +Yc 22:33, May 19, 2013 (UTC)

SpotlightEdit

Greetings,
I've recently found out the wiki named Mai-Otome Wiki! It's newly created and slowly growing.
Could you please tell me: What conditions have to be met for the wiki to be put on the spotlight? And is there a way some contributors to be attracted?
Looking forward for your answer! --Iliyana Petkova (talk) 15:40,5/22/2013

Content attributionEdit

There seems to be a bit of plot content on here copied from animenewsnetwork. Should I just plain delete those? — SimAnt 05:23, May 23, 2013 (UTC)

Well for stuff like, Adventures of Kotetsu that takes content from [1]. animenesnetwork's copyright policy doesn't seem to allow us to use their work like this. and Wikipedia's page doesn't have a summary since they removed similar content for copyvio. Is it alright if I just remove the copyvio, and add the stub template? — SimAnt 19:36, May 23, 2013 (UTC)
