2009Edit

Welcome! Edit

Hi Dantman -- we are excited to have Animanga Wiki as part of the Wikia community! Thanks for joining us, and we'd like to give you some tips to help you get started on making your wiki great.

Your first four steps: Edit

1. Create your User Page - this is a great place to introduce yourself (and practice wiki-editing!)

2. Add a logo - learn how to create a logo image, then click here to add it to the wiki.
Create an article on this wiki:

3. Create your first 10 articles - use the box on the right to create ten pages, starting each one off with a few sentences. For example if you are starting a wiki on a TV show, you might create an article for each main character.

4. Edit your Main Page - add internal links (like this) to the ten articles you just created, and any other improvements you can think of.

Once you've done these four things, you've created a great starting point -- your wiki looks friendly and ready for visitors. You can then invite some friends to help you create the next twenty pages, and expand the ones you've built.

Keep going! The more pages you create and link to each other, the sooner that others who are searching for "Animanga Wiki" will be able find your project in search engines, read your content and join you in editing.

If you have more questions, we've provided a full set of help pages, or you can email us through our contact form. Don't forget to check out other wikis on Wikia for ideas on layout, organizing your pages, and more. Have fun!

Best wishes, Catherine Munro @Wikia 23:11, May 26, 2009

Kyo Kara Maoh Edit

I moved that line to the top, cleared my browser, but when I tried an article to see if it worked it did the same thing. I got tired of seeing the message so I deleted all the tables, however, if you'd like to see what it looks like go to the Conrart Weller page on my wiki.--Kylecharmed 15:32, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

Templates? Edit

Hi there. I'm Tou, and I noticed that you said that any wikis that wanted to sync up with yours should just come to you. I need just that. My wikia is: http://phunk.wikia.com/wiki/Phunk_Wiki If you need me, feel free to drop a line on my talk page of email me at: kwabowman@yahoo.com

Thanks. :] —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tou (talkcontribs) 14:24, July 17, 2009

That wiki is currently unfinished, but myself, and a few friends of mine roleplay Naruto, and we wanted to make a wikia similar to bleach.wiki and Narutopedia for our characters. We thought that it would be cool to have the templates featured on those wikias as well so that we could have that official look to it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tou (talkcontribs) 00:34, July 18, 2009

Well, is there any way that you would like us to prove to you that we deserve the templates and such? --Tou 06:15, 19 July 2009 (UTC)

Scope Edit

What is the full scope of the animanga wiki? Is it mainly just a directory for full wikis, with other related articles like authors, production companies, and definitions?

I'll get to cleaning up the pages I dumped from wikipedia (to just intro and plot), but what about small titles that don't currently, or may never have a wiki of their own like Kure-nai, how much should I remove?

On a side note, should I be adding "banners" to articles on w:c:anime w:c:manga for titles that have their own wiki and/or are now listed here to direct users here?--Sxerks 23:10, 19 July 2009 (UTC)

Rollback Edit

Can I be added as a Rollback on this wiki? It would make reverting stuff like this easier.

On a side note the blue-link on blue-background of the Series Template doesn't stick out well, I think it also needs to be a little bigger in order to emphasize that there is/isn't a dedicated wiki.--Sxerks 02:08, 24 August 2009 (UTC)

Question Edit

Can we create the characters we want to promote? Coldhandzz 08:48, September 19, 2009 (UTC)

RE: logos and series template and xml Edit

I only noticed afterwards that there was the ability to do a server-call for the link, from looking at another of your templates. It does look better now without the blue-on-blue links.

So the genre at the top aren't categories? But at the bottom of the page there is a "Special:SearchByProperty". People clicking on a genre like "comedy" in the series box would more than likely be looking for other comedies and not a definition. If its going to stay like that, what other than a link to "Special:SearchByProperty" at the top of a genre page would be best?

Side question- Is there a way to use input forms to generate a large block of xml pages that can be imported into a wiki?

Example: Fill in "series name", "# of volumes", "# of chapters", "# of episodes" and get hundreds of pages with links to each other (previous-next chapter...) in one xml file.

Or is that something that is not possible here, but could be done off-site?

I'm mainly looking at helping new wikis easily generate pages, because it helps contributers jump in, even if there are just generic headers on every page like (summary and characters introduced...).--Sxerks 17:12, September 19, 2009 (UTC)

When looking at Property:Genre I see some dupes with different spelling (Slice of life, Slice of Life, Slice-of-life and diff sci-fi). First, which spelling/capitalization should be used. Second, is there a page that lists Genre properties in an alphabetical list to more easily find the dups?
As for the XML thing, I don't think I explained what I was talking about well enough, it didn't have anything to do with templates here.
I was looking to see if it was possible to generate multiple pages with generic content headers and interlinks like this that can then be imported(Special:Import) into a brand new wiki to facilitate easy growth.
I wanted to know if the "Edit with Form" like tools were powerful enough to do this or whether it would be easier with an off-site program.--Sxerks 01:30, September 20, 2009 (UTC)
The format itself mandated or static, the pages default content would be inputed in a Form box.

Mine would be something like:

Title

Title Japanese

Date

Volume

Previous Chapter → CPN###

Next Chapter → CNN###
Synopsis
Referbacks
Trivia
===Cultural References==
Unanswered Questions
Memorable Moments
Quotes
where start with other Form values: C### = Minami-ke Manga Chapter 001, CP### = Minami-ke Manga Chapter 000, CN###=Minami-ke Manga Chapter 002, CPN=000, CNN=002 It then generates 130 pages with all the correct values in one xml file and its imported.

For SoulEater, something like:

{{Infobox/SoulEater/Episode
|blank info ....
|episode = ###
|blank info ...
|}
Prologue
Summary
Differences from the manga
The only different is in that case you are using episode titles in the page name(which could be in another form box)

What I have seen in going though all the anime wikis here on Wikia is that most of them are blank, or they only have character pages. Most new people can only figure out enough of wiki code to do simple editing anyway. I would go and generate pages on semi-dead/dead wikis for series I've never seen/read to help growth, I did it manually on rosario+vampire. --Sxerks 02:20, September 20, 2009 (UTC)

Series Template Edit

Is the "type=Anime, Manga...." going to be displayed like the Genre and Tag are, or at least part of some searchable category?

And is that field going to be editable with the "Edit this Forum"?

If a series has a Fanon wiki, can it be added to a category like "Series with Fanon Wiki" that with display at the bottom along with the "Series" category?

--Sxerks 03:48, September 26, 2009 (UTC)

why? Edit

Why did you delete my page. This is ironic you baned me in the naruto wiki for the same stuff you just to me.Saimaroimaru 20:52, September 28, 2009 (UTC)

Anyway, I've come to apologize for my behavior in the naruto wiki. In the bleach wiki we are allowed to delete whatever we want on our talk and user pages(if we aren't alowed well that rule isn't enforced there) and I just overreacted.I'm sorry. Can you unban me?Saimaroimaru 21:18, September 28, 2009 (UTC)

Okay, whats your policy on the word shit because someoneuser on bleach wiki is calling my idea a full of shit. Its one thing to disagree and prove wrong its another to go around calling others thought shit. Bleach wiki seems to be losely governed while Naruto wiki has a nice set of enforced rules. Iam I unbaned? I have some words to say on this yoton debate and a sugesstion.Saimaroimaru 21:31, September 28, 2009 (UTC)

I see. Well watch out for Tinni on the bleach wiki, he'll call your idea full of shit if it doesn't conform to his ideas.Saimaroimaru 21:51, September 28, 2009 (UTC)

Thanks, great now i'm stuck in a flame war with this person on the bleach wiki.Saimaroimaru 22:14, September 28, 2009 (UTC)

Create article Edit

Is there a way to modify MediaWiki:Newarticletext to include the Series article Form, since clicking on a red-link doesn't offer the Form now?--Sxerks 16:43, October 2, 2009 (UTC)

RE: TGlevel1.jpgEdit

This file is my original artwork, created from scratch in pencil and then rendered up in photoshop. Every piece of artwork I've uploaded here was created by myself and released under a GFDL license. If I should have used a different license, please let me know, but you have my word as the image's creator that it is totally legit. Ciao, TGcomix 12:30, October 17, 2009 (UTC)

Well, every image in that article is my original work; three of them were originally posted on the Spanking Art Wiki under GFDL (which I was told was the correct license to use). You can check their sources here:

The fourth image is more recent, but I have also released it under a GFDL license here.

And if your statement that you drew them yourself was true then they wouldn't even be authentic images.

No, they aren't Japanese screencaps, manga or CG, but then again, neither is the picture of Wiki-tan being used as the site's logo. They're illustrations which can be used by anyone on this site without risking fair use challenges or similar complications. TGcomix 13:04, October 17, 2009 (UTC)

Well, I could replace them with small-sized screencaps from some of the shows mentioned in the article. If that would be an acceptable solution, please let me know what conditions would satisfy the fair use rationale, and I'll get onto it. Ciao, TGcomix 02:10, October 18, 2009 (UTC)

Tag Sync Request(s)Edit

When you have the time, add w:c:codegeass to the template tag sync queue. Thanks. Simant 19:19, November 28, 2009 (UTC)

Other admins agreed (Anubis zero, Plau), also got request for w:c:codegeassfanon to have them added as well from Anubis zero. Simant 20:51, November 30, 2009 (UTC)
I think the tweaks for the codegeass wikia are complete, I just can't touch the fanon wikia since no admin privileges there. Simant 18:24, December 13, 2009 (UTC)

spotlight background Edit

I just noticed that the "Code Geass" spotlight I put up has white text and transparency making it unreadable. Is there a simple way to add a "background color" option to the spotlight template.--Sxerks 21:18, December 2, 2009 (UTC)

Death Note Template Edit

I am sorry to ask as I am sure u are busy, but on Animepedia I found this Death Note Template. Here's a link [4]. I couldn't find it on this Wikia so I figured I'd ask someone. Promoting onto a Bureaucrat (in MMKB)Edit

Celebrating my 2000th edit in Mega Man Wiki, I was wondering if I could be promoted to become a Bureaucrat. Quick, there is inactive, and this wikia has been suffering some edit wars. Can you respond ASAP? --Vzing 22:42, January 10, 2010 (UTC)

Sengoku era sword and sorcery Edit

Just to inform you, "Sengoku era sword and sorcery" is not a genre recognized by Wikipedia. It is a compound genre description consisting of "Sengoku era" and "sword and sorcery". It is unique to the article about InuYasha and is featured in exactly one article. I may misunderstand some things but I have always been under impression that genre labels' primary function is to find works similar in tone, setting, and plot. Considering that InuYasha is the only anime/manga that can be found under "Sengoku era sword and sorcery" "genre" under current constellation, its function is completely lost to me. :) --Koveras Alvane 19:12, January 17, 2010 (UTC)

AnimeBot? Edit

Hey Dantman, I've been wondering for some time now: Over the past 2 or so years, the anime wikia has jumped around quite a bit, but has the AnimeBot been following it as far as its template source for copying to other wikis is concerned (that is, where is the bot currently pulling templates to copy from)? ダイノガイ千?!? · Talk⇒Dinoguy1000 15:17, April 28, 2010 (UTC)

AnimeBot currently syncs from anime.wikia, js and css is also shared from there. That's basically the only real reason anime.wikia is still floating around. Templates are being slowly copied over here, cleaned up, and improved. Once that's done I'm going to do some more thought on syncing and come up with a new method of syncing pages. ~ NOTASTAFF Dantman(Local TalkAnimanga Talk)
So if I want to improve content that AnimeBot syncs, should I do it at anime.wikia or here (or both)? ダイノガイ千?!? · Talk⇒Dinoguy1000 19:43, April 28, 2010 (UTC)
anime.wikia has the things currently being synced. It's nice to also improve the stuff here that'll eventually replace it too though. ~ NOTASTAFF Dantman(Local TalkAnimanga Talk)
How exactly is content being moved from anime.wikia to here? And, depending on that, would you mind me moving stuff if I come across something on anime.wikia that isn't here? Also depending on that, what about backporting changes from here to anime.wikia? And one last question, are you aware of templates.wikia? ダイノガイ千?!? · Talk⇒Dinoguy1000 20:13, April 29, 2010 (UTC)
Templates are moved manually and cleaned up. I asked Simant to help a bit, you're free to also. Anything copied over should be cleaned up similarly to w:c:anime:Template:Wikipedia which became Template:Wikipedia. Documentation is moved to a separate page, templates like ACGNetwork are removed, and for sitename use WIKINAME is used.
I wouldn't bother paying attention to templates.wikia even if it had come to my attention. The templates there are the same as the templates around the rest of Wikia, they're wrought with bad practices brought on by lack of ability to control css styles, which doesn't apply to Wikia's smaller communities. As well as other ugly ways of doing templates, most of the templates on anime.wikia were personally improved by me and made to be nice and flexible. ~ NOTASTAFF Dantman(Local TalkAnimanga Talk)
All right, though I can't see why Doc's styling doesn't seem to get used on other templates - is this a problem only I am having, or is it a known issue? And I bring up templates.wikia not necessarily to pull ideas from it (though I personally wouldn't be quite so quick to dismiss it), but rather to look at porting some of the better or more general-purpose features from animanga.wikia's content set to there. In addition, it would seem to me that new and updated templates for starter.wikia are more likely to be pulled from there than anywhere else on Wikia. ダイノガイ千?!? · Talk⇒Dinoguy1000 02:56, April 30, 2010 (UTC)
Where is Doc's style not showing up? It should be showing on all template pages. A screenshot might help. As for templates.wikia I dunno, the incompatibility goes both ways, the templates here use actual css rather than inline styles, so taking them outside the project makes the styles and half their advantages disappear. ~ NOTASTAFF Dantman(Local TalkAnimanga Talk)
Hmm, now it is... must've been some sort of browser cache bug on my end. =/ As for templates.wikia, I understand the use of the inline styles versus classes here, but considering that wiki's purpose, it's a necessary sacrifice. Still, I could understand why you wouldn't want to take time adapting templates for use there, considering how much work it can be converting classes to inline styles (and especially considering that some class CSS is next to impossible to make work inline). ダイノガイ千?!? · Talk⇒Dinoguy1000 02:55, May 1, 2010 (UTC)

Importing anime and manga over from Wikipedia before its destroyedEdit

For quite some time now, a group over at Wikipedia have been sending batches of Anime and Manga articles to AFD each week. These are always listed at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Deletion_sorting/Anime_and_manga so they are easy to find. This includes those that have been published in notable manga magazines, which more often than not, get deleted do to lack of coverage in third party media sources. If you want a fast way to add to your Wiki, and save articles that deserve to be saved, then that's a good place to grab some to export from Wikipedia, and import over here. Only administrators can use the import command of course. Dream Focus 05:25, July 8, 2010 (UTC)

Why not fix Candidates for Deletion? Edit

I have noticed that there are some Series Articles dumped into the Candidates for Deletion because it was "poorly done". The term "poorly done" is vague enough, and the lack of editors (especially from the admin or bureaucrat side) is disappointing. Why aren't these articles properly maintained? Isn't it the job of the admin to actively edit stuff he/she thinks needs editing? Or does the problem lie with the lack of an admin which is knowledgeable with anime?

I hope those decent articles over at the Candidates for Deletion category are moved away from that category and fast. It makes this Wiki less maintained. heraldofmeridian♣ 03:54, August 13, 2010 (UTC)

Well, we don't really need a very extensive way of handling stuff. We just have to show that we accept the good edits that users contribute, not blatantly mark them as "bad" edits and throw them elsewhere. Categorizing articles as "for deletion" might scare away Wiki creators.
As for your your other point, yes, I can't expect that an admin is gonna fix what a user contributed that has some flaws in it, but "A page may be written poorly, yet still have a purpose... Clarify it instead of throwing it away," according to here. Also, this Wiki is a community. You might be the admin, but everyone else can help out anyway. heraldofmeridian♣ 12:44, August 13, 2010 (UTC)

Request from Wikia Edit

Hi Dantman,

We’re conducting a survey of Wikia’s most passionate Anime users. Your depth of knowledge on these topics inspires us to learn more about Anime and why it appeals to so many of our users. We’d appreciate if you took a few minutes to complete this short survey.

The first ten users to respond to this post saying they’ve completed the survey will receive a $20 Amazon gift card.

If you have any other Wikia friends that you think would be interested in taking this survey, please let me know!

Thanks, Abarlas (talk) 23:31, April 3, 2013 (UTC)
