Shingeki no Kyojin (進撃の巨人) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Hajime Isayama, which is set in a world where all the human population had to retreat inside several rings of enormous walls after a sudden appearance of Titans, who started to annihilate humans seemingly without reason. The story centers around the life of Eren Jaeger and his adoptive sister Mikasa Ackerman. The series won Kodansha Manga Award in shōnen category in 2011.

PlotEdit

Several hundred years ago, humans were nearly exterminated by titans. Titans are typically 3-15 meters tall, seem to have no intelligence, devour human beings and, worst of all, seem to do it for the pleasure rather than as a food source. A small percentage of humanity survived by walling themselves in a city protected by extremely high walls, even taller than the biggest of titan. Flash forward to the present and the city has not seen a giant in over 100 years. Teenage boy Eren and his foster sister Mikasa witness something horrific as the city walls are destroyed by a colossal titan, which is a roughly 60 meters tall, that appears out of thin air. As the smaller titans flood the city, the two kids watch in horror as their mother is eaten alive. Eren vows that he will murder every single titan and take revenge for all of mankind. Nominated for the 4th Manga Taisho Awards (2011) and won the Kodansha Manga Award shōnen category (2011). In English the series is roughly translated to 'Attack on Titan'.
