Macross (マクロス, Makurosu) is a Japanese science-fiction media franchise created by famed mechanical designer Shoji Kawamori. A classic space opera and one of the first real robot anime following Mobile Suit Gundam. The series is well known for the music and love triangles in its plots. It was initially created as the first instalment of the Super Dimension Trilogy as Super Dimension Fortress Macross (超時空要塞マクロス); the trilogy ended after the cancellation of Super Dimension Cavalry Southern Cross due to low ratings, with Macross ultimately being its most successful entry.
