Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba (鬼滅の刃, Kimetsu no Yaiba) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Gotouge Koyoharu. It is serialized in Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine from February 2016 to May 2020, with its chapters collected in 23 tankōbon volume, and licensed for English release by Viz Media starting in 2018.

An anime series adaptation of the manga by Ufotable was announced in Weekly Shōnen Jump on June 4, 2018, and is currenly licensed by Aniplex of America and streamed by Crunchyroll, Hulu, and FunimationNow. Based on the first 7 volume, the first season subtitled Tanjiro Kamado: Risshi Arc (竈門炭治郎 立志編) aired in Japan on Tokyo MX, GTV, GYT, BS11, and other channels from April to September 2019. A sequel film based on the Infinity Train Arc (無限列車編, Mugen Ressha hen )Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train, was released in October 2020. The second season premiered in October 2021 starting with a reconfiguration of the film into a 7-episode arc while covering the Entertainment District Arc (遊郭編).

As of February 2021, the manga had over 150 million copies in circulation, including digital versions, making it the eighth best-selling manga series of all time. Both the manga and its anime adaptation have received critical acclaim. The anime series has received numerous awards and is considered one of the best anime of the 2010s. In 2020, the Demon Slayer franchise generated an estimated annual sales revenue of ¥1 trillion ($8.75 billion), becoming one of the highest-grossing media franchises of all time.

Plot[]

In Taishō-era Japan, Tanjiro Kamado is the eldest son of his family who takes on the family responsiblties after the loss of his father. One day after visiting town to sell charcoal, Tanjiro ends up staying the night at Granddad's house instead of going home because of a rumor about a demon that stalks a nearby mountain at night. When he goes home the next day, Tanjiro found to his horror his whole family slaughtered by a demon, and that his sister, Nezuko, is still alive but mysteriously demonified. Desperate to restore his sister's humanity and avenge his family, Tanjiro joins the Demon Slayers Corps, a shadow organization who has engaged the demons in secrets for centuries.
