Himitsu no Cocotama ( ヒミツのここたま Himitsu no Kokotama), literally meaning "Secret Cocotama", is a
new children's franchise by Bandai, consisting of an anime, toy series, and other merchandise. It focuses on small, magical spirits which hatch from everyday objects that have been used by humans with great care. The series is oriented towards girls and follows the theme of taking good care of things you cherish.
The franchise was first revealed at the 2015 Tokyo Toy Fair on the 18th of June. The first batch of toys were released on the 19th of September, 2015, and the anime series is set to debut on the 1st of October.
The word "Cocotama" comes from the Japanese words kokoro, meaning "heart" (referring to the mind and soul), and tamago, meaning "egg". They are called this because they hatch from eggs that magically formed from the souls of inanimate objects.
The toy line is called Cocotama House Series and features a dollhouse as well as various sets of rooms, furniture, and decorations. There are also figures of the six Cocotama characters, used for playing in the house and interacting with furniture.
The anime is called Kami-sama Minarai: Himitsu no Cocotama and focuses on the six Cocotamas as they play together in their Cocotama House, practice magic, and get up to adventures in the human house without being caught. The anime series also features a human girl called Kokoro Yotsuba, who discovers the Cocotamas and must keep them a secret while they train to become Gods.
Aside from the Cocotama House Series, other merchandise is available and/or planned for release including:
- An app, which allows users to take photos and decorate them with pictures of the Cocotamas.
- A sticker book with over 50 stickers.
- Stationery including stamps, stickers, crayons, paper, erasers, and more.
