The Devil is a Part-Timer! (はたらく魔王さま!, Hataraku Maō-sama!; lit. "Working Demon King!" or "Demon Lord at Work!") is a Japanese light novel series written by Satoshi Wagahara, with illustrations by Oniku (written as 029). ASCII Media Works has published 30 volumes (21 normal + 7 special + 2 bonus) from February 2011 to July 2022. There have been two manga adaptations published by ASCII Media Works in Dengeki Daioh and Dengeki Maoh. The first manga started in February 2012 and has 21 tankōbon volumes through May 2023. The second spinoff manga titled The Devil Is a Part-Timer! High School!|はたらく魔王さま！ハイスクール！|Hataraku Maō-sama! Hai Sukūru!}} ran from July 2012 to 2015 and produced 5 tankōbon volumes. A 13-episode anime adaptation produced by White Fox and directed by Naoto Hosoda aired between April 4, 2013 to June 27, 2013. A second 12-episode season The Devil is a Part-Timer!! (はたらく魔王さま!!, Hataraku Maō-sama!!) ran from July 14, 2022 to September 29, 2022 with a new studio Studio 3Hz. A third "part 2" 12-episode season The Devil is a Part-Timer! Season 2 (Sequel) premiered July 13, 2023 and is ongoing.
Plot[]
Devil King Satan Jacob is only one step away from conquering the world when he is beaten by Hero Emilia and forced to drift to the other world: modern-day Tokyo. As "conquering the world" are the only skills the Devil King possesses—and are obviously unnecessary in his new situation—he must adopt the name Sadao Maō and work as a freeter to pay for his living expenses!
