Forums: Index > Watercooler > Calendar to show birthdays of all anime-manga characters

so yeah, as the heading says, how do you feel about having a calendar extension to list all the anime/manga characters' birthdays on this hub? could help drive more traffic here. I can help out once in a while to add dates, but I will leave the templates to you ~~Gin-san (Talk) 17:32, April 9, 2010 (UTC)

Seems like an interesting idea. I assume like the Gintama main page. What would be required to be added here to get it to function?--Sxerks 02:21, April 10, 2010 (UTC)
I am using Calendar (Barrylb)'s extension, Special:Contact to request for it to be enabled on the wiki, but User:Akadirgun was not happy about it on D.Grayman wiki (I asked for it to be enabled there as well), so I leave it to your discretion. The rest of the extensions here --> http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Calendar ~~Gin-san (Talk) 14:51, April 10, 2010 (UTC)
I don't think a calendar extension is needed to list anime/manga character's birthdays. At the very least, I'm sure something like the Semantic Calendar output would be better. I think that was in SRF. ~ NOTASTAFF Dantman(Local TalkAnimanga Talk)
That gives me an idea - use the calendar not for the characters`s birthdays but for the birth dates of the anime OST/Soundtrack authors, like Kawai Kenji (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kenji_Kawai http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/川井憲次). I just need to choose the calendar. --Teyandee 14:25, April 11, 2010 (UTC)
I'd say that idea definitely deserves the use of SMW and the calendar format. It should be possible to have infoboxes annotate pages in a way which can be automatically listed in the calendar with no additional effort. ~ NOTASTAFF Dantman(Local TalkAnimanga Talk)
The SMW is currently supported by Simple Calendar and DPL Calendar, however I look into using Calendar (Kenyu73) as its is able to store Recurrence Events like birthdays. If I understand right, I create an event for one day and its automatically added for the all years in the calendar.--Teyandee
Recurring events can also be handled by the SMW calendar. Also if we ask for SIO too we don't even need multiple pages like DPL or most of the other extensions would. ~ NOTASTAFF Dantman(Local TalkAnimanga Talk) 18:10, April 11, 2010 (UTC)
Do I understand you correctly that the recurring events is supported by Simple Calendar? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Teyandee (talkcontribs) 09:30, April 12, 2010
No, the SRF calendar format can. Or rather, #set_recurring_event is built into Semantic MediaWiki itself, and thus the calendar format can display it. ~ NOTASTAFF Dantman(Local TalkAnimanga Talk) 16:54, April 12, 2010 (UTC)
I'm not to familiar with using SMW, so it's up to Dan to start any implementation, looks like it's possible though.--Sxerks 19:52, April 11, 2010 (UTC)
Doesn't this wiki only create pages for series and general animanga terms? So it doesn't have articles for characters. Unless SMW queries can work cross-wiki, I don't see how that's an option here. -- Deltaneos (talk) 21:50, April 11, 2010 (UTC)
Right, there are no character articles, so those entries(how ever they are stored) would have to point to another wiki "w:c:...". Though we do have pages for voice actors and mangaka here, so they could potentially be added as well.--Sxerks 02:27, April 12, 2010 (UTC)
SIO can create semantic objects that don't need additional pages so that can handle that issue. ~ NOTASTAFF Dantman(Local TalkAnimanga Talk) 04:35, April 12, 2010 (UTC)
I am close to sending a request to enable to Calendar (Barrylb) on my wikia. But a recent warning on a page is stopping me - how can I "validate user input and/or apply escaping". What is this problem? --Teyandee 16:44, April 19, 2010 (UTC)
You don't, it's a security flaw, and thus Wikia won't install the extension. ~ NOTASTAFF Dantman(Local TalkAnimanga Talk)
Are you saying that the calendar will not be installed? --Teyandee 16:54, April 19, 2010 (UTC)
