Attack No. 1 (アタックNo.1, Atakku Nanbā Wan) is a 1968 Japanese manga series by Chikako Urano, serialized in Weekly Margaret Magazine. The series became the golden age for the shōjo manga category, while also capitalizing on the boom of the gold medal Japanese women's volleyball team in the 1964 Olympics. The anime adaptation that aired from December 7, 1969 to November 28, 1971, was well received in the anime-friendly television markets of France, Italy, and Germany.

A direct manga sequel entitled Shin Attack No.1 was published in 1975, but it was short-lived until it was later redrawn by Kanon Ozawa from 2004 to 2005 in Margaret Magazine. A TV drama series was aired on TV Asahi from April 4 to June 23, 2005

PlotEdit

After transferring to Fujimi Academy, Kozue Ayuhara tries out for the school volleyball team where she befriends her teammate Midori Hayakawa, and her talents impress coach Hongō every day. Though she showcases extraordinary volleyball skills, she makes enemies with Katsuragi, the star of the current team. Kozue discovers that being at the top would bring stress, incompatibilities and other dilemmas into her life. Her high expectations of becoming the best volleyball player in the school, Japan and eventually the world, set the tone for the drama to follow.
