Akira Toriyama (鳥山 明, Toriyama Akira; born April 5, 1955; died March 1, 2024) was a Japanese manga artist and game artist known mostly for his creation of Dr. Slump in 1980 and Dragon Ball in 1984, and recently, Jaco the Galactic Patrolman in 2013. He founded a design and production studio called Bird Studio in the early 1980s.
On March 7, 2024, the official Dragon Ball Twitter account and website announced he had died at 68 on March 1, 2024 of an acute subdural hematoma. His family held a private funeral.
